Saw this on the large AVX screen and what a great looking film. I know there's cranking about the 48 frames format but I really thought it looked wonderful. Only a couple of brief times did the format seem to "jarring". Storywise... haven't read the Hobbit or the LOTR appendices for a while so I don't know what came from where but I liked the story. As with LOTR... it was great to hear a Tolkien line spoken by some wonderful actors. Great to see Gollum, Bilbo and Gandalf again. Quibbles that pulled my rating down from a 10... geez Jackson could you trim those fight sequences up a smidge. Not everyone is enthralled with drawn out battles. And the one place I didn't think the 48 frame worked all that well was in Rivendell... the elves went from ethereal otherworldly beings to a bunch of guys looking for a Ren Festival... don't do that to Legolas... OK... Overall great movie... see on the big screen... I think what I'd like to do is find a theatre showing it at the usual frame format and compare.
