    The Humbling

This film comes with some solid credentials being directed by Oscar Winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man) and written by iconic writers and Oscar Winners Buck Henry and Philip Roth, starring 7 time Oscar Nominee Al Pacino who did win for Scent of A Woman! Well, I have all the compassion in the world for an actor who is seemingly over the hill, losing all passion for life. I have seen this with older colleagues at the U of T and it is a painful time of life. Simon (Al Pacino) seems to find his stride in something or someone most unlikely. Is he back in stride? This is the million dollar question!

Growing old, as they say, is no place for sissies, but what if prevailing circumstances prevents an individual in living any type of sane or normal life? This film presents life questions that are almost impossible to answer as each person is so unique, each with a soul that makes him/her someone more than just a 'human being'. The premise of the film is quite a good one after all It was written by first class writers. The problem I have with it is that the situations and affair of Simon following his bought of great depression seems a bit far-fetched and almost hard to be taken as believable. I believe that old age and the severe problems it brings to many are not solvable problems. Sad but true! It's something that weighs upon the mind of middle aged people OR even younger!
