    The King and I

The King and I from way back in the 1950's is in a revival on Broadway winning 4 Tony Awards at the June 7, 2015 Tony Awards Celebrations from Radio City Music Hall. It's leading lady, Kelli O'Hara, won Best Musical Actress Tony as Anna, the wonderful but slightly mysterious school teacher in Siam!

The film version from around 1956 stars Deborah Kerr in an Oscar Nominated performance that will totally delight you. She is simply magnificent. Yul Brynner as the King did win the Oscar for best male performance, but that honour should have gone to KIRK DOUGLAS playing van Gogh in LUST FOR LIFE! However, the movie is grand in every way. The set designs and costumes are so magnificent as to make one gasp. The cinematography in Cinemascope is on the colossal scale and so beautifully shot. The supporting players, especially Rita Moreno are first rate. The King and I offers such a lush story and score from Rogers and Hammerstein with literally not one bad song in the entire musical. It was nominated as BEST FILM in 1956 and it would have been a worthy winner. This is a musical that will be playing in Toronto for a night or two during June, 2015. One simply can't miss this extravaganza on the big screen. The King and I is a treasured score and film!
