I never did want to see The Last Airbender when first released as the reviews were as abysmal as they get. So seeing it some five years later on DVD justified my decision not to see the film theatrically. I consider this film as poor, as horrendous as they come. The source material is not upheld by writer/director M N S. The screenplay is so bad one is shaking one's head in disbelief. Add to this that the performances are savagely bad with direction that is non-existent and one gets a full blown mess that doesn't have one single redemptive quality. A feature to avoid at all cost... even on DVD, Netflix or whatever format! How does a director go from making two quite outstanding films such as The Sixth Sense to producing nothing but garbage? It's a mystery to me BUT some persons in the arts literally have only one good thought or idea that work.
Anything else attempted becomes scornful at best. The great actor CHARLES LAUGHTON produced a masterpiece with his direction of THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER with Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Lilian Gish in 1955. I honestly believe he felt he had one great movie in him. He never entertained the idea of directing again!
