    The Last King of Scotland

An absolute must see, if only, for the performance of Oscar Winner Forest Whitaker as Dictator Idi Amin of Uganda, one of the most diabolic of all 'contemporary' dictators. Whitaker literally won every film prize in 2006 for his brilliant portrayal of Amin, a role tailor made for him. James McAvoy, who unwittingly gets involved with him is his usual great self, witnessing this towering fiend go from benevolence to a barbarism that had no bounds. It all happened as portrayed on screen as has been related to me by several people who lived in that era. Apparently, Amin got asylum in France where he died from syphlis that had never been treated at any point in his lifetime. So he was literally a madman as the untreated virus will cause, in time, brain damage before it kills outright. It's ironic that one of the easiest sexual diseases to cure can cause such destruction if left unchecked. This is the way the infamous Henry Viii of England also died when still in his fifties. The inhumanity of man towards his own fellow citizens is a shocking reminder of the corruption of power, not a semblance of mercy to anyone who stood in his way! It's ironic that Forest is such a gentle, loving, big man as was Idi Amin... yet Mr. Whitacker so convincingly portrayed everything that was contrary to his caring nature. BRAVO, Forest!
