    The Lego Movie

Having played with LEGO's when I was younger (who hasn't), I was always the type who kept each set together, never let any pieces mix together, and kept everything separate. After seeing this movie, I just want to pull out my old LEGO sets, smash them up, and build whatever I can dream up. This movie works on so many levels, not only being entertaining and colourful for kids, but truly pulls you in on an emotional level. First of all, the LEGO Movie is absolutely hilarious, and packed with witty, infectious humour. There were moments where the kids in the theatre were just roaring with laughter (myself included), and also many moments that had the adults laughing out loud (again, myself included) There are also countless cameos placed throughout that I won't spoil, but bring the movie some of its cleverest moments, and also very witty pop-culture references. The directors involved here, Chris Miller and Phil Lord, who have previously directed Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and the 21 Jump Street movie clearly are experienced with both humour for children, and humour for adults (which is still G Rated here) and pull this off expertly. The voice acting is stellar, with names like Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrel, Liam Neeson and Chris Pratt involved. Honestly, I can not think of a better fit for the voice of Emmet than Chris Pratt, his voice lending itself so well to the role. Towards the end, this movie really started to pack an emotional punch, and again, I won't spoil anything, but I was not expecting the LEGO Movie to exert the same level of emotion that you would expect from a Toy Story movie, and it did, it really did. I would also suggest that, if you're willing to spend the extra money, you see this movie in 3D. I hardy ever recommend seeing a movie in 3D, and I usually urge against it, but here the 3D really adds to the experience, making you feel like you're really in," LegoLand" and there are quite a few really impressive 3D tricks. There are also some very impressive action sequences, especially for an animated movie, and the animation itself is incredible. It really looks like everything is made of LEGO! Overall, the LEGO Movie is a funny, colourful, intelligent and emotionally deep film that brings messages about creativity and having fun, while also poking fun at pop-culture and society. There is so much about this movie that I wish to praise, but I'll let you see it for yourself. I cannot recommend this movie enough. It is the best movie I've seen in quite a long time, and is definitely high on the list of my favourite animated movies.
