A riveting look at one of the all time great Company men whose covert work around the globe astounded me. This master spy, an intelligence officer with power and cunning rose to the very top to become CIA Director. However, there is a price to pay for this type of extraordinary work for one's country. He literally had no family life to speak of, a very bleak and sad life always "in absentia" from those who loved and cared for him. I don't call this any kind of life at all! Is it any wonder Colby's son made this doc? He got to know a father, his own father not from a cozy home life, but researching and filming a doc about this deep, dark mystery man. I found the extreme dedication to country a monomania which eventually led to problems both political and personal. I had no sympathy whatever for William Colby as he chose this life and never wavered from it no matter the reason. A life alone, guarding secrets, very few family ties left me running on empty. It's a life I would never choose or desire. The whole thing felt abnormal!!! Not a big fan at the doc's conclusion.
