    The Revenant

For any adventurists out there-or not, this tale based on a true story is sure to captivate you-heart and soul. It's an incredible haunting tale of survival of the legendary Hugh Glass. It is set amidst hostile, stark beautiful, yet dangerous landscapes of 19th-century fur trapping country. It's an education about the vast American wilderness and not only the rough lives lived for fur trappers but the dangers of nature, intense brutality and spirituality woven into the lives of the native Indian, facing their own struggles of survival. Relentless sheer will is a driving force not to be reckoned with in this story. It is unimaginable and only a few times, did I have to turn away. The characters of Glass (DiCaprio), and Fitzgerald (Hardy) was a total immersion into character backed up by the genius direction of Innaritu. We see, hear and feel the fear, deep pain (both physical and emotional) anguish and frustration- especially portrayed by DiCaprio. He displays sometimes only a fleeting expression, extreme quiet, a groan or whisper but emotes such strength of character with few words. He's as close to perfection as I've ever seen. The realism in this film is moved along by the stunning cinematography, the music in sync with the storyline and the unforgettable characters-it stays with you. It's a powerful, gripping adaptation of a unique piece of history, first written as a book by Michael Punke who is a big deal in the USA for his "other" life. This movie will not bore you as lengthy as it is. The never-ending suspense and the suffering of lives endured evoke so many emotions. There is always the harsh reality of dynamics between the native Indian, the fur trappers and Mother Nature herself. The unforgiveness of nature is a raw comparison to the wild cruelty of man, himself. This is an incredulous masterpiece, not to be missed and necessitates viewing on the big screen. It is a sure win for many awards.
