Existential art-house action-er that's been something of a critical darling and punching bag since it's release. I was surprised to find it more conventionally plotted than expected. Almost like a Anthony Mann Western in structure and it's morality. With shades of Werner Herzog's insane "Let's shoot in the most inhospitable places we can!" spirit and some Malick navel-gazing. In fact, if I've any problem with this movie, despite how great it is, it reminded me far too much of other films and film-makers. Still, it's a hell of a flick, with some beautiful cinematography and singularly tense scenes.
