    The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Frickin' gorgeous and heartbreaking film. It's reminiscent of the video-game "Okami" in terms of its animation-style and the visuals, be they of traditional Japanese culture or fantastical dream-scapes are just spellbinding. And the story! Based on a folk-tale that's considered one of the oldest examples of Japanese prose, it certainly feels mythic. Kaguya herself is an immensely likeable protagonist. A woman resistant in the face of a society in which men make all the decisions and women must be a certain way and no other. Where hierarchy and being proper is more important than actually living. If the movie has anything working against it, it's a wee bit languid and quite formal. But that's a very small "but" when weighed against the frickin' beauty of this flick.
