    The Thing

Usually prequels are lame but this one was actually pretty good. The filmmakers did a good job in matching this one to the story of the 1982 John Carpenter take on the story; the explanations and plot resolutions for what happened at the Norweigan base work well with Carpenter's film and there are nods to Carpenter's film too that are good (including the ominous musical que) Plus there some nice twists and even some ambiguities that make you think (no spoilers from me though) It does make you appreciate the mechanical effects Carpenter had to use way before CGI came around and yes see the 1950's original; if you watch it in the winter with snow on the ground and then head out at night, see if you don't find yourself looking over your shoulder.
