I re-saw The Trip to Italy as I had free passes from a friend. My opinion of the film has changed since the first viewing. This movie which really is a road movie moving around as it does to several Italian locations is pleasant enough but most in my circle of friends know Italy quite well so NOTHING NEW OR EXCITING HERE! The pairing of Steve Coogan, whom I prized in Philomena, and Bob Brydon is not a match made in heaven. Maybe it's the NON-BRIT in me. In any case the two never stop chattering and though the subject matter is quite literate and profound for the most part, it felt I needed TIME OUT FROM THESE TWO. I could not stay till the end of the film the second time round. Frankly I don't get why Steve Coogan is admired or praised as much as he is. It's a cultural gap in large part. I'm now convinced of this.
