Russell Crowe's first directorial effort has me confused. Why are the early battle scenes at Gollipoli presented from the Turkish point of view rather then that of the Australians'? This is a peculiar choice of filming considering the history involving Turkish atrocities performed on the Armenians. However, Crowe's performance as the Australian farmer searching for his sons elevates the movie somewhat. He also manages - in his travels - to find one of the most beautiful Turkish women in the country (portrayed by Ukrainian(!) actress and model, Olga Kurylenko) to bond with, for cultural exchanges.
