    The Woman in Gold

OMG what a remarkable film even in theme alone as a woman fights tooth and nail with the Austrian government to get a great art piece that is rightfully hers along with other significant artifacts we all know were stolen by the hateful Nazis. Can Helen Mirren ever do no wrong? The rest of the cast is terrific with the likes of Ryan Reynolds as her lawyer, the superlative Daniel Bruel and Katie Homes whom I have come to appreciate more after seeing her in MISS MEADOWS, a film that surprised me in a positive way, big time. The Woman in Gold is an uncompromising film that forces both the protagonist and the audience to face some startling truths of the past, truths that are are not simple or even bearable.

With all this, Helen Mirren is presently on Broadway as of April 15 playing Queen Elizabeth II in a new drama about her relationships with the many Prime Ministers of her long reign. Don't be surprised if Dame Helen wins another Tony Award to sit along her Oscar Winning performance as THE QUEEN!
