Joel Schumacher is a director who rarely gets it right. His most notorious fiasco was the filming of Webber's " Phantom of the Opera " with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum, so bad it flopped with critics and public alike and was out of theatres in no time! I couldn't watch this debacle to the end.
As an antithesis to the above fiasco, TIGERLAND offers a pretty decent war film from Schumacher, maybe his best work starring Colin Farrell as Bozz, a troublesome recruit, always in hot water, disliked by his own peers and officers alike. Bozz is a layered, complicated character played to perfection by Colin Farrell. He is superb in this role and it made him a major star! As Viet Nam is raging Bozz's company of soldiers is shipped to the notorious Tigerland. Something quite incredible now happens as Bozz becomes an altered man. It's a story of two different philosophies in wartime. The ending is really something!
