Mostly set in a very beautiful and luminus South of France lavish villa, gardens and pool -- with a ever perfect blue sea near by -- it's a thriller -- with romantic asides --, a few times very violent to the point of gore -- yet somehow quite gripping most of the time. Some scenes lack realistic logic (such as the dog appearing and disappearing, at crutial moments, according to the script's whims) And the very first scene is either totally misleading or a useless give away -- you'll be able to decide... Furtherrmore, in my humble opinion, Pierre Niney who's supposed to be 'The Perfect (or Ideal) Man' of the title is far from being that -- even if he finds it necessary to always tag himself, right after his full name, as being a member of' the 'Comédie françsise'. His acting is fine, yet physically he's far from being a 'beautiful' person. So, even if I'm aware that the film's title is largely ironic -- meaning slyly the contrary of what it states --, that so-called 'perfect' young man of 25 is an usurper, a phony writer (having stolen a dead man's manuscript which he has published under his own name), a thief, a murderer... I largely enjoyed that movie which I thought could be a kind of hommage to Hitchcock/Highsmith, reminding me of the plot of 'Talented Mr. Ripley' (or its French original 'Plein Soleil').
