Viola is a comedy of love and its many intrigues, but what truly interested me was the small Shakespearian company she joins in Buenos Aires. Matias Pineiro creates a bohemian paradise of sorts, a community of artists, actors and musicians who thrive in perpetual leisure. His portrait of Buenos Aires, the city, shows great love and affection. What I did not like about the film is that at 65 minutes it is really much too short to develop any one matter with any degree of satisfaction. This is a serious drawback. I want themes and technique drawn out with care, not merely a quick, linear overview. With all the director deals with, he seems satisfied to cram everything in an hour or so.
