    What Richard Did

" What Richard Did " is a fictionalized account of an event that occurred outside a Dublin Pub to a young man called Brian Murphy. The film is much more than the sum of its parts. It's an engrossing, intelligent drama that stays in the mind and heart days after the film has been viewed. It is that powerful, laying bear its artistic soul how a single event can destroy everything.

Richard Karlsen is an Irish Golden Boy Athlete, an alpha privileged male and hero of South Dublin teenage friends. What he does one night will ruin the lives of all those around him. This is more than a teenage story gone wrong. We know the faults of the young of almost any culture, but what becomes very disturbing is how this feature shows adults who insist on wriggling out of all blame for a horrific event. The slow burning effect of the film is tremendously disturbing, almost of unbelievable proportion.

This is a very important, award winning Irish film that has left a permanent legacy. Jack Reynor as lead actor Richard won Best Actor at the Irish Film Awards as did director Lenny Abrahanson and the impeccable script of Malcolm Campbell. It is a film one would wish had wider distribution as it conveys such important ideas and truths that ALL, both young and old should experience... thus benefiting from its thesis. It has played many film festivals, the last important one being Tribeca.
