In many respects this is a predictable tale of giving in to emotional loss, then attempting to survive through personal ordeal. In the Directorial hands of Vallee, despite a rather caricaturish interpretation of the mother, it redeems itself through an inventive mixture of journey tension and flashback. Producer and star, Witherspoon, is to be credited for maintaining a believable character by not overdramatizing physical traumas and personal threats to keep a reasonable belief in the journey undertaken.
