This wonderful film was made for HBO, but released as a regular movie outside of North America. Steven Soderberg directs with skill and agility and gets two fabulous performances from Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. Both were too old to be playing their respective roles as lovers, but it works quite beautifully, in any case. The production values are top of the line. They had to be, keeping in mind that the film was going to be a theatrical release world wide! One fact that totally took me by surprise is that Liberace wore a toupé. Looking at old photos, YouTube footage and some of his great shows from Las Vegas, I never would have "thunk" it! Look for Debbie Reynolds as the mother of Liberace, a character who seemed totally oblivious to everything that was happening around her son's world. Terrific film as usual from the best cable station, HBO.
