This 1936 drama from great Howard Hawks has its roots in the mighty novel of Edna Ferber who dwells on a saga of good hearted people leading the ideal type of life. The film becomes important as it is only one of six features made by the great but tragic FRANCES FARMER. The cast is uniformally good and this was the year the ACADEMY started to hand out BEST SUPPORTING OSCARS with the very first one going to the venerable Walter Brennan who went on to win a total of three Best Supporting Oscars.
