    Come to the Stable

'Come to the Stable' is the beautiful story of French nuns arriving in Pennsylvania to start a Hospital at Christmastime of the very late 40's. Loretta Young as the Head Mother and Celeste Holm as one of her more confidential nuns, make "sisterhood" look like the most joyful, giving experience. Both ladies were nominated for Oscars in their respective divisions as was Elsa Lanchester, a poor painter of the area who gives them room and board. It is one of the most elegant of Christmas season stories to be put on film, all from 20th Century Fox. Not only has it the spirit of Christmas, but works very well when switched to a more secular mode!
