Deborah Kerr makes a big splash in this George Cukor film also starring Spencer Tracey. It was her American debut film and she is right at the top of her game earning her first of many Oscar Nominations as Best Actress. She never won in competition but she received a Lifetime Achievement Oscar some 5 or 6 years before she died. She deserved to win so often as in 1960 for The Sundowners which netted her all sorts of Best Actress prizes, but the Oscar eluded her again, the Academy giving it to an ill Elizabeth Taylor for Butterfield 8 which Liz herself called a horrible performance in a shabby film. Very sad for robbing Miss Kerr!
