The Fall of the Roman Empire

Grand epic film which supposedly gives us the reasons for the Fall of the Roman Empire. There were many reasons for the fall, some discussed in the film, many left out. The whole purpose of the film was to showcase on a massive scale one of the greatest empires the world has ever known. With Sofia Loren, Stephen Boyd (from Ben-Hur), Alec Guiness, Omar Sharif, James Mason, Christopher Plummer and many other great names the film was a gigantic box office hit in the mode of Cecil B. De Mille., all show and relatively little substance. Anthony Mann had his hands full with this monstrous film and came out of it fairly unscathed.
