This is a good movie, no doubt about it... you just have to get over the fact that the lead character is a 12 year old kid, unlike in the original Karate Kid where Daniel Larusso was a teen in high school, making him much more believable to have girl issues as well as highly trained (read badly evil trained) martial arts foes. If you can get past that, and get past the few miscues in the story and the far-fetched intense training the 12 year old goes through, then you've got yourself a good movie, worth seeing. This movie has its heart in the right place. Jackie Chan plays the newly redesigned "Miyagi" role very well, so kudos to him. Jaden Smith pulls off the pouty sad face boy to perfection, and also manages to deliver a few very touching scenes too. So kudos to him as well. The chemistry between Chan and Smith certainly does match what was achieved between Macchio and Morita in the original. It's a very touching story, far-fetched at times, but still very entertaining and effective. Worth seeing, 7/10.
