    Mahler

Ken Russell is known for over the top productions. In Mahler, excesses were kept to a minimum in this costume biography of the famed composer, Gustav Mahler. The film is an evocation of the loves, moods and music of the artist. Through flashbacks and dream imagery, it focuses on the tormented life and turbulent relationship he endured with his wife, Alma. Though this is Russell in a more mellow mood, I am NOT fond of the Mr. Russell filmography.
