    Sweet Bird of Youth

Richard Brooks's brilliant adaptation of Sweet Bird of Youth for the screen is a cornacopia of acting riches with the Royalty of Geraldine Page's Princess M.'s character and her gigolo/hustler 'saviour' by way of Chance in the guise of Paul Newman both giving belting performances as the leads, Geraldine on one of her 8 Oscar Nominations. The town they run to has all the memories, good and bad of Chance's young manhood. The girl he loves, Oscar Nominee Shirley Knight and Big Town Boss Ed Begley in a surprise winning supporting acting performance. One tries to live the best they can in this drama of a fading Hollywood Diva, a young man who wants his way in the door and a town loving, angry, hateful in the incarnations of its several people!
