The Eagle

The Eagle starts off fantastic, and usually these kinds of films end up going through a downward motion until it gets to the point of cheesiness, and I was praying this action packed thrill-ride wouldn't experience that uncommon fluency that is extremely present in action films. Unfortunately, this piece went through the it. I love films that start off great because it instantly jolts you into the plot, but usually films go in an unexpected direction after the first half hour or so, and the movie lowers the bar to a level that shouldn't be present in high-budget film productions. It's almost better off focussing more on the end of the film than the beginning because good movies always get better and better as the film goes on. That's why Christopher Nolan makes some of the greatest films because he doesn't always blast off with an intriging beginning. Nolan always makes it so every scene gets better and better so the film builds intensity, and finally finishes at it's highest point. The Eagle, however, did not do that, and you can only get a few of those great films that build intensity as the film goes on, and only directors such as Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Clint Eastwood, and the Coen brothers have really portrayed the "full-film" magic. Kevin Macdonald doesn't deliver.
