I finally saw The Exorcist by William Friedkin (July 24, 2015) and it was a dandy except for the horrendous wardrobe of then 1973 America. I don't like labeling The Exorcist a horror movie as it is deadly serious material and taken as deadly serious by the Catholic Church. It is rather a thriller with some horrific scenes. William Peter Blatey's book was a sensation and the entire movie turned out to be a sensation as well with Oscar Nominations in almost all departments including film, director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Actor. There was much controversy that the film lost to light weight feature THE STING, but one never knows the Academy's mind. The Exorcist is the real deal, a frightening movie about a frightening subject dealt with great realism and respect... not like all the nonsense hokey horror films of today.
