John Ford's 4th Oscar as Best Director might have come as a bit of a surprise considering the competition in 1952, but he creates a masterpiece of all that is Ireland from family, to courtship, to love, feuds... you name it. John Wayne as an ex-boxing champ fighting his demons returns to Ireland for the solace he needs. What he gets is the rough and tumble of all that is Irish life. Maureen O'Hara captivates as a young, proud, young woman who wants everything done according to custom. The character actors, namely Victoer McGlaglan, Mildred Natwick, Berry Fitzgerald and more make this one of the most exquisite of movie experiences. I have seen it so many times and never tire of it. O'Hara and Wayne are such a perfect screen couple, their chemistry is so on the mark that they went on to make six more films together. Just love THE QUIET MAN! YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST SEE THIS FILM!
