    The Soloist

In this story of two men, a reporter and cellist comes a film that is relatable as one man has fallen ill with mental illness even as the feature opens. It almost seems to be a film based on fact. I did enjoy the film and the notable eventuality of an event quite grand seems to illumine the human condition. Yet the film had its drawbacks. One is Jamie Foxx's earnestness that eventually becomes too much and wears a bit thin on the audience. Robert Downey seemed almost too eager to please. I saw the film theatrically in 2008 and though it is all a fine human interest story it falls a bit short and was not popular with the public. But the effort deserves at least a 6.
