What I initially thought would be a documentary on release turned into a dramatic thriller of the first order which I re-saw on DVD a few nights ago. I can't say enough about director Kyle Alvarez who kept this story moving at a thrill a minute suspenseful rate. The experimental work in a make shift prison at Stanford was extraordinary as was the alteration of human behaviour in a matter of days. Billy Crudup as Doctor Zimbardo uncannily looked like the young version of the real Doctor Zimbardo, now a professor emeritus. The supporting cast of young volunteers I knew quite well from several other films and I must say they were remarkable. The likes of Ezra Miller, Tye Sheridan, Keir Gilchrist and the host of prisoners and guards in this frightening set-up scenario keeps one so involved in the drama that it becomes eerily scary. Check out to see what seems a benign experiment and delve into what becomes a type pf living hell in a matter of days.
