George Sydney's 1953 film of the future Queen Elizabeth I is an appealing costumer of the young princess (Bess) played beautifully by a radiant Jean Simmons. Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr are along for the ride, but it is Charles Laughton's reprise of his award-winning role of King Henry VIII of 1933 that helps the film greatly. This time round Laughton is a more serious Henry VIII as compared to the more campy version of 1933.
