Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance

Uneven pace, disjointed, a quintessential mockery of Hollywood movie standards. It unemploys a radical departure from Hollywood trends to reel you into the Birdman's lackluster, low budget, creepy dark humor net but, in the end, it accomplishes what it set out to do well. There is no hiding the fact that Michael Keaton fits into this niche of highly versatile, introspective actors who end up immersed in a characters head. No one would know where Riggan Thompson ends and where Michael Keaton begins as the two seemed so intertwined he could've have fooled you into believing anything. Emma Stone however completely surprised me with a monologue that was, until then, far outside the realm of her possibilities. That single scene completely established her, in my mind, as a true character actress who's career while thrive beyond stereotypical, uni-dimensional roles audiences quickly get tired of. If there is something else to say about Birdman is that it is everything you would expect, except you can't expect what you haven't seen before. A theatre piece inside of a movie with a fittingly impromptu soundtrack to boot. Mastery of mockery, a genius in disguise, it effortlessly postures for the talent and hard work that laid the Birdman to our eyes.
