    Concussion

Concussion is probably Will Smith's most solid performance in years. In fact it's probably one of his best performances, period. As Nigerian doctor and impassioned forensic pathologist, Dr Bennet Omalu, Will Smith hits all of the right notes and really pushes through believably as the first to identify CTE in pro football players. Also, that brings me to the second point in that the movie itself is not rightly named, as concussions are not the topic of interest but subconcussive brain trauma that leads to CTE. Seeing the effects of CTE on retired football players going through severe dementia, depression, drug dependencies, suicide, etc... really puts things in perspective. I mean not only was the human not built for head to head impacts but even less from 350lbs genetic anomalies running at you like it's the end of the world. Whichever the case, providing better protection for the brain and for early detection of Tau accumulation leading to CTE will be paramount to maintaining the health of players. For now, caution is the only solution as you still can't detect it until you are actually dead.
