It's evident that there are two camps here - those who love it and those who regret ever seeing it. I think some people missed the point - the acting is supposed to be a bit cheesy, the script is supposed to be more realistic, and the movie is a social commentary, much like his other films. The fact that there was no signature twist ending was the twist. Go in with an open mind and you may actually like this film.

I didn't miss the point. I got the message but this film was marketed as "Horror/Suspense". When that's promised, it's what I expect. The acting wasn't supposed to be cheesey. Why would a director deliberately want a cast to do their job in such a manner if it didn't enhance the overall production? If this was supposed to be a comedy, then it should have been marketed as such. Sorry, I don't agree at all. This is just a BAD film. Period!
I completely agree with your review. I saw an interview with M. Night, and he said this movie is an homage to old horror flicks. He DID want cheesy lines, he wanted it to look like an old Hitchcock but with his own touch. So whether you liked it or not, I think all the things that people are complaining about are exactly what he wanted in this movie... If that makes any sense? Haha, maybe only to me...
