This is a movie about a man who makes incredibly decent and loving choices despite being surrounded by a sea of human struggle. We fall in love with his character and our hearts break because of his fate. What I appreciate most about this story is it showed a Spanish man showing kindness to immigrants from China and Senegal. While some have called this film a poem about the human condition, I see the plight of these disenfranchised people as more a direct result of corrupt governments. The film does not leave one with hope for humanity, rather it left me feeling that one man can still choose good no matter what his reality.
