So is Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service the take-no-prisoners, outrageously violent, action/comedy spectacle I've been awaiting for more than a year? Why yes it certainly is. Although the trailer did give away far too much, this ride remains as fresh and genuinely awesome as any red blooded action fan could hope for. Colin Firth is perfectly cast as a member of a secretive organization who decides to take a young troublemaker under his wing and offer him a chance to train as a super spy. Samuel L. Jackson is also hilarious as Valentine, a billionaire nerd with a lisp, who dresses like he should be courtside at a Knicks game and is perhaps a better meta nemesis than any Bond villain in the last 20 years. Despite its frequently slapstick nature, the sheer gruesomeness of the violence is bound to be a problem for some. Particularly in an extended sequence in a southern church, where if you've brought your 11 yr old with you to the theater, is about the time you'll really start to regret that parenting decision. You've been warned. For adults looking for an original, violent and proudly outlandish spy film, you won't find a better one than this.
