This a fine documentary of a man's journey to discover more of his deceased father when he discovers his family origins were in a town called Trochenbrod. It is a Holocaust story, but one a little different from most. We know Jews were scattered all over Europe; many were intellectual, rich and held very high positions, but there were just as many, if not more, uneducated, miserably poor Jews. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DOCUMENTARY, BUT I WANTED TO EXPLAIN, LIKE MOST OTHER PERSECUTED PEOPLE OF THE WORLD, JEWS were considered especially sub-human, NOT CREATED EQUAL to other men during that period of the Nazi régime. This is a fascinating look at something quite unique as Trochenbrod was the only ALL JEWISH town (5,000 inhabitants) to ever exist outside of Palestine. One would know even without seeing the documentary what the sick, nefarious Nazis did with that town. There is one big surprise at the time of a most horrendous event and, as we learn, another incredible, miraculous moment some 60 years later... in that very same town. It is a very moving documentary as are all Holocaust documentaries. It's too unnatural to observe via film, television, whatever medium, the horrors that befell these people who were good, law-abiding citizens. But as we realize, it takes only ONE MAD MAN to turn our world upside down.
