    Machete Kills

What started as a fake trailer for Grindhouse has blossomed into a B movie franchise that by all accounts will have its third chapter in space. Machete Kills showcases director Robert Rodriguez's talent for, among other things, churning out quick, cheap exploitation fare that looks and sounds professional. He probably shot this in a month for like a couple million bucks and considering how good it looks, that is not easy to do. To review this movie in traditional terms is pointless. It takes itself as seriously as it's plethora of gimmick casting choices suggests. Sr Carlos Estevez (aka Charlie Sheen) as President of the United States and Mel Gibson as Voz are deliciously enjoyable, as are Sophia Vergara and Amber Heard as... well eye candy. But it is Demien Bichir as a Mexican agent with multiple personalities that steals the film. Yet despite all the smiles and enjoyment generated by the cast it feels like the joke was played out after the first movie, making this sequel, while moderately entertaining, basically unnecessary.
