Did no one else see MISS MEADOWS (Katie Holmes)? I first felt it might have gone directly to DVD, but it was released in 2014. Miss Meadows is a substitute teacher, very prim and proper with perfect manners, but she has one incredible secret up her sleeve, quite an astonishing one. I can't even hint at it or even the opening of the film will be spoiled. I don't think this is a comedy at all, not even a comedy-drama, but it has an absurd tone to it much like existential drama which can be quite tragic! The satire of the film plays on your mind, but for me it was all deadly earnest. There are quirks and quarks in this feature that make you chuckle but leave you puzzled and bewildered. We are faced with a theme that is hardly new to cinema, the idea of DUALITY in a person. It has been treated in films from the very silent days, but nothing in MISS MEADOWS is like anything we have seen before. I had grave doubts about this film, but I must admit it surprised me enormously. The writing and directing are way above average. Just the thought of creating this character, Miss Meadows, and directing Katie Holmes to bring this very quirky character to life is an unbelievable feat. She is like no woman you have ever met! It's too bad no one saw the film because I could identify with almost everything going on in that young woman's head... that is I could rationally understand what she was going through but not for a moment could I be that character. It's a pretty dark film, gritty as well though everything seems sunshine and roses UNTIL you learn all too quickly the reality of this unbelievable situation. Be prepared for some odd twists and turns and for an ending one would never have believed as the film began. The supporting cast is good especially JAMES BADGE DALE who knows more than he's willing to reveal. This indie by Karen Leigh Hopkins won me over. The film is odd, very odd but it keeps you tapping along with OUR MISS MEADOWS! It's ironic that the sheriff's last name is BADGE!
