One of Canada's greatest exports to Hollywood, a singing sensation from her early teens was the sweet Deanna Durbin. One Hundred Men and a Girl has to easily be one of the best films she ever made. The music is gorgeous and the plot a bit impish but wonderful. Then to have the great MAESTRO LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI on the podium as it were, not the old Stokowski, but a young exuberant one, a wonderful thing to witness. Since I have always loved character actors, what my dream would have been if not a prof, we have some great ones in this production from Adolphe Menjou, Alice Brady, Eugene Pallette, Misha Auer and in a must see minor role, ALMA KRUGER, the wife of the great Alfred Hitchcock! A dream of a film!
Deanna quit movies very early on when still in her early 20's. She married a Frenchman, moved to France and lived there until she died an old lady a number of years back. Too bad she forgot all about her roots, CANADA!
