I agree "movie doesn't get traction". I was hoping to see a good drama as I think Jake Gyllenhaal has the makings of a decent actor. But this film doesn't do enough to flesh out the characters - given that ALL have some dark history around them, we never get to see what it is. Glimpses and inuendoes, but that's it. I was hoping it would be more of a "story" rather than all about boxing. But it's the violence that sells and so it was directed and edited to show that. Too bad, could have been a real story about how this man and woman came so high through the system and then fell. With the child as collateral. I thought it showed real well though, the hypocrisy of a system that doesn't take care of all children the same way. Starting with Hope.
