When I watch these latest incarnations of the Star Trek franchise I can't help but think that the actors are playing the original actors playing the characters rather than playing the characters themselves. This film had a ton of action and great special effects, but was short on story. Benedict Cumberbatch was well cast as Khan, but I don't think the character was fully utilized. I enjoyed the part written for Scotty most of the regular crew members. I'm old enough to remember the original tv series and how it grappled with important social issues. I'm also old enough to realize that is never going to happen with this series of movies.
