After Inception raised the bar, any movie that tries its hand at science fiction had better be a bit more sophisticated than fedora hats that unlock doors and an undefined antagonist named simply The Chairman. The audience grapples to find depth in the suggested themes of free will and choice, but the characterization of the antagonist in this film is sorely neglected. And let's face it, every story needs one. We never feel the suspense we want to, because the bad guys are quasi good guys and kind of campy to boot. The one good thing I take from this movie is that Matt Damon plays a fantastic romantic lead, as he somewhat demonstrated in Bourne Identity. The acting is good... it's the story and sophistication that lacks.
