    The Awful Truth

Leo McCarey's 1937 'screwball' like comedy deals with a divorced couple and the highs and lows that keep dogging their lives. Irene Dunne is yet again paired with Cary Grant and she delivers one of her very best performances earning another Oscar Nomination as Best Actress, Second banana Ralph Bellamy is the typical nice guy of the piece garnering him a Best Supporting Oscar Nomination. The script is razor sharp with dialogue that was written by a real master of the English Language. Director McCarey gets it all right in a fast clipped direction that doesn't let down for a moment! Above all, this is a feature in which you will really love the characters faults and all. Very funny!
