The Lorax

I went in to watch it with high expectations based on reviews written here. The reviews are NOT accurate, makes me think they were written by marketing people. I learned my lesson today. Definitely not a 9-10 unless you have been living in a cave and this was the only thing you ever saw. I changed my plan and decided to watch this one because I wanted to laugh and get away from this depressing time. A sense of humor is subjective... well the problem is it simply did not provide ANY moment to laugh at! So one cannot say I have a different sense of humor. And I did laugh when using the bears to give electrical shock. The audience which consisted of quite a few parents and young children (5-10 yrs old) and people in their 20's barely laughed. I can honestly tell you there wasn't a moment of a big laughter in the theater. And we were all there to have a good time, waiting for the movie to give us something, at least something to work with. The story is a series of musical and contrived action sequences which we have seen many times in other animation. I respect the message they attempted to give about saving the environment etc. but the message doesn't sink in and the only thing that stood out were the contrived action sequences. Also the characters were superficial. "Despicable Me" WAS funny, this one is NOT. Doesn't matter if it was done by the same studio or producer etc. For the parents, I recommend taking your children to "The Secret World of Arietty", the images are beautiful since it is hand-drawn and it touches your heart if the kids understand the message. All "Lorax" has are some cute animals dancing and getting smashed. And sadly it doesn't make you laugh. Rating of 5 out of 10 is a very honest rating.
