The great IRENE DUNNE was pretty well at the end of her career when she played Queen Victoria mourning the loss of Prince Albert in The Mudlark. I couldn't accept Alec Guiness as Prime Minister Disraeli after the definitive performance of the politician by George Arliss. In any case, this is a beautiful film that plays out on some sort of fairy tale level yet being a fresh and natural true life drama of people we know very well and others who were wonderfully fabricated for the film. A truly delightful film.
