    The Yearling

Claude Jarman Jr. won the best child performance in 1946 for a very touching performance of a lonely boy who befriends a little fawn and tries to rear it as a household pet. The action takes place in post civil war America with Jane Wyman and Gregory Peck adding flawless performances. The film will break your heart as the youngster, Jody, must do the impossible in bidding farewell to his dear pet. Clarence Brown was able to capture that time of rural America with a very deft hand. Very worthwhile viewing.
