Spotlight

Spotlight follows the story of a group of journalists working at the Boston Globe in 2001 who are uncovering a very controversial situation, that might just lead to some major problems.

I was very excited for Spotlight. It has a stellar cast and the buzz around this film has been amazing. Well, after having seen it, I could say that Spotlight is a brilliantly done film that really goes deep into the world of journalism.

The whole cast works incredibly. Michael Keaton delivers yet another fantastic performance as Robby. He captured the body language and tendencies of the real man. Mark Ruffalo gives what I think to be his best performance. His character is just so damn likeable, and there's one monologue that he gives that makes his performance Oscar-worthy. The rest of the supporting cast also worked very well.

The screenplay is beautifully written, with very realistic and captivating dialogue. The story was also incredibly interesting. However, my main gripe with Spotlight it that it takes a while to get rolling. The first twenty minutes were quite slow, and not as interesting as I would have hoped. However, after that mark, I became completely captivated in what was going on.

The editing, cinematography and musical score by Howard Shore are all top-notch. Spotlight also ends with a very powerful message that really affected me afterwards.

Overall, Spotlight is a fantastic film with great acting and a captivating story. See it!
